Smartphone Share — Google Grows While RIM Slows, Palm Reverses

While I wouldn’t trust ComScore’s numbers completely, these numbers are cause for concern for Palm. Palm needs to make some more moves to stay competitive in 2010 and to stay afloat. First off, Palm needs to release a “Pre 2” this year with better build quality, which means ditching the curved slider design. Also, webOS is a revolutionary platform is regards to design, but it needs to be optimized to reduce lag time. Finally, once the PDK is launched this year, it will allow any iPhone app to be ported over to webOS. This will solve the “lack of apps” problem.

Google Voice Lands on iPhone and Palm as a Web App

While there are some apps in the Palm App Catalog that already support Google Voice, it’s nice to see an official app from Google. Although it is only a web app, it is a start. The new web app is powered by HTML5 and looks very similar to the rest of the Google mobile sites. iPhone users can now enjoy Google Voice on their phone that Palm and Android users have had for a while.
